FAQ

How many movies is Hollywood making in a single year?

Hollywood studios produce around 3,000 films per year. Three thousand!

Hollywood spends billions advertising these films. They spend millions producing them. They also spend millions promoting them. How many end up being released in theaters?

It's probably between 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ other films? They are either distributed as direct-to–video releases or simply left in storage.

Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of them were selected for distribution via Netflix Prime, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus, iTunes or Google Play.

Hence, why aren't there more of them? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? They're too costly to produce.

They would be released in theaters if they were less expensive to produce.

Here's where you find me. I will help you find the best possible way to release your film in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Because let's face it...

It can be hard to get your film into the theaters. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.

It might also cost you a lot before you start.

You have a very short window in which to distribute your film.

There's not enough time between the moment a film is completed and its theatrical debut.

Who is Hollywood's most famous actor?

Tom Hanks is the most highly-paid actor of all time. He averages $25 million per movie. According to Celebrity Net Worth.

Does Hollywood make more money from foreign sales than domestic sales?

Yes, but only slightly. 2017 foreign revenue accounted for approximately 17%. 83% of domestic revenues were generated in 2017.

In fact, more than half the world's people live in overseas markets.

This means many people who might never watch a movie at home will still want to see yours.

How much does it cost to distribute a feature film?

A typical distribution deal will cost between $100,000-$150,000.

Theaters typically cost around $10,000.

Why is Hollywood so famous?

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once an artist has received their star, he/she is eligible to be listed in the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove the name of your from the list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Your family members can nominate you for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can place a memorial marker next to the star, if there aren't any living relatives.

Why can't people choose to use a different street than having stars all over the place?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
