Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo?

Crowdfunding is a great way to connect with potential investors.

Most filmmakers don’t believe they have the right to ask for money. They feel they must have someone to speak for them.

Even though they aren't yet proven to be themselves, they don't believe that anyone should put money into them.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

Then, when they launch the campaign, they realize how poorly prepared they were.

They end up with only a few donations, instead of thousands of dollars.

What is the average number of movies Hollywood makes in a year?

Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. That's right, 3000!

Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions on their production. They also spend millions on marketing them. However, how many actually make it to the theaters?

Most likely, the answer is around 200-300. The question is, what happens to all the other 2,700+ films? Most of them are either released direct-to-video or just sit in storage.

Some of them may not be seen. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.

Why don't they get more? Why are they not released in theaters? They are too expensive for production.

They would be released in theaters if they were less expensive to produce.

I'll show you how to maximize your return on investment (ROI) and increase your chances of seeing your movie in theaters.

Let's face facts...

Getting your film into theaters can be quite difficult. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.

You may end up spending a lot of money before you get started.

Even worse, your window of opportunity to distribute your film is very limited.

There's not enough time between the moment a film is completed and its theatrical debut.

What made Hollywood famous?

The answer was simple. It was because they were willing and able to take risks. They had the fortitude to make films that would remain in people's minds for years.

They were open to new ideas and had the courage of trying them out.

Does Hollywood make more money from foreign sales than domestic sales?

Yes, but not very much. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. Domestic revenues accounted to 83%.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
