FAQ

How many movies makes Hollywood each year?

Hollywood studios produce about 3,000 films each year. That's right, 3000!

Hollywood spends billions on film advertising. They spend millions making them. They also spend millions promoting them. How many end up being released in theaters?

Most likely, the answer is around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ other films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.

Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

So why don't we see more of them? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? They're too costly to produce.

They would be released in theaters if they were less expensive to produce.

What is the difference between a producer and a distributor?

The movie is produced by a producer. The movie is distributed through a distributor. Distributors and theaters are two options for producers to sell their movies. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. Distributors with multiple theaters are a good choice if your movie needs to be seen by as many people.

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened to all the stars stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
