How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Once an artist has received their star, he/she is eligible to be listed in the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.

You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?
